Welcome to the Autumn edition of Newsbeat. This is our first edition for 2012 and we're really pleased with what's inside as it has a wide range of stories about what's going on in Western Australia Police.

We feature a behind the scenes story about the life of our special police dogs, and two articles about the work of WA Police Air Wing as they recover cannabis plants and help to launch technology that has the potential to save lives.

There are golden stories about descendants of a Kalgoorlie detective and the even earlier story of police involvement with gold escorts. We highlight safety for motorcyclists and theft reduction for motor scooter riders, so if you are on two wheels you need to read on.

The wider police family remembers its fallen in Newman and gets behind an officer who is unwell after he was bitten by a mosquito in Halls Creek. Also in the far north, you can read about an officer who receives an unusual welcome to his new station.
