Welcome to our summer edition of Newsbeat and the final edition for 2011 where we once again bring you stories about WA Police during the past three months. In each Newsbeat we aim to highlight some of the diversity which is part and parcel of a police officer's 'lot', and this edition is no different, but two strong themes have emerged this time.

Firstly, there's the celebration of a job well done with CHOGM, the tremendous fundraising efforts by officers contributing to Bright Blue, our National Police Service Medal recipients and those recognised by Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan APM for excellence in their work.

The other theme is more sobering, as we remind ourselves that every day our police officers face potential dangers and threats as they carry out their duties, with some tragically making the ultimate sacrifice by losing their lives. We reflect on the significance of Police Remembrance Day, recognise officers rewarded for bravery and follow the tale of an officer who was stabbed.

There's a look at the role that WA Police plays in speeding up the transit of donated organs and tissue - one of the few times that driving could actually save a life!

Police Historian Peter Conole provides some insight into wartime WA and the roles police were required to perform. As his story's title implies, these were 'ominous times' in our history.

And last but certainly not the least, our Commissioner spearheads this edition with his annual Christmas message to our Newsbeat readers.
